When Fans Fall, Who’s Accountable? – A Wake-Up Call from Kalindi College

Recently, a shocking incident at Delhi University’s Kalindi College has raised serious questions about campus safety. A faculty member was injured when a ceiling fan suddenly fell during a class. This wasn’t just a freak accident—it was a warning sign.

This is not the first time something like this has happened. In 2023, a similar incident at Hansraj College injured a student during an exam. These repeated accidents show a disturbing trend—neglect of basic infrastructure in prestigious institutions like DU.

Student bodies and organizations have strongly condemned the incident. The DUSU Secretary demanded immediate renovation work across all DU colleges, calling the event “completely unacceptable.” The Disha Students’ Organization also criticized the administration’s lack of accountability, stating that such accidents are becoming the norm.

At DuWaale, we believe safety in schools and colleges isn’t optional—it’s a basic right. Whether it’s a ceiling fan, a broken bench, or damaged wiring, regular maintenance should be non-negotiable.

Let’s raise our voices, demand action, and ensure no student or teacher ever has to fear for their safety inside a classroom.
