Cow Dung Cooling Controversy at Laxmibai College | DuWaale.in

Laxmibai College, Delhi University, is currently facing backlash after classrooms were coated with cow dung as part of a “traditional cooling experiment” led by Principal Dr. Pratyusha Vatsala. She claims it’s a research project meant to test indigenous cooling techniques in unused classrooms.

However, students were neither informed nor consulted, leading to strong reactions. Many demanded modern solutions like fans or ACs instead. DUSU President Raunak Khatri protested by applying cow dung outside the principal’s office, saying, “If it’s good for students, it should be fine for administration too.”

DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh responded, emphasizing that while traditional knowledge is valuable, experiments in public institutions must be done with proper planning and consent.

DuWaale’s Take: Innovation is welcome, but not at the cost of student comfort and participation. Respecting tradition must go hand-in-hand with practicality.
